Dr Jeremy Axon
I have been a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Welwyn Garden City and Hertford County Hospital since 1994. Until recently, I was the sole consultant dealing in all conditions referred by the local GPs. Our Trust is united to the Lister Hospital, Stevenage, where I share weekly meetings with my colleagues.

Training
I trained at Charing Cross Hospital and qualified in 1984. I completed my junior training at both Romford Hospital and finally the Central Middlesex Hospital.
My research years were at Barts Hospital, London where I was involved in studies looking at the links between the gut and arthritis. I also studied how rheumatoid tissue has similar characteristics to local tumours.
I completed my senior training at Oxford, which included accreditation in Rehabilitation Medicine:
✔ 1984 - I qualified with MB BS (London)
✔ 1987 - I gained my MRCP (UK)
✔ 2000 - I was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP)
My Main Interests
My main interests are centred around sport. I continue to play golf and cricket and will watch most sports. I have three children who enjoy sport as well, especially rugby, cricket and tennis, which allows me to continue watching their matches. I live in the country and have always walked. I also enjoy reading and belong to a book club, which the children call “Dad’s beer club”.
